sallyelford-home

Brighton based artist & illustrator Sally Elford’s new site is now live at sallyelford.co.uk.

We took out the background colour and added a bit more breathing space to the layout, and while we kept the main grid structure of the old version it’s less ‘boxed-in’ than before. It’s always best to keep things simple on a portfolio site like this because it’s all about focusing on the artwork. The monotone images in the the header are a nice touch though, and they nicely separate the 4 main areas of the site.

A feature worth mentioning is the javascript powered image zoom in the prints section. Activated by moving the mouse over the image, this eliminates the need to show several detail shots of the same image.

The main focus of the new site is the shop. The payment gateway here is Paypal, but the shopping cart and checkout process remains on the site, taking the user to paypal to make the payment, then straight back to a success page.

Tony Hung site 1

Just completed a new portfolio site for Tony Hung. The whole site runs off a single page with the content pulled by PHP from the MySQL backend. The work is arranged in a specific order, with a random starting position. A few bits and pieces of jQuery help to keep everything slick.

Dreams homepage

We’ve had the pleasure of working with ticktockrobot again, this time on a micro-site for the new Dreams TV ad campaign.

The site has been built using a combination of jQuery and Flash animation, falling back to static images if the Flash plugin is not installed.

Page loading times are not at all bad considering the amount of images involved here and the content is loaded dynamically using ajax to avoid the page reload restarting the animations.

The ad is displayed using the wonderful new HTML 5 <video> tag, falling back to Flash in older browsers. Thanks to Camen design‘s “Video for everybody” method for this.

All in all, a fun little site with some great imagery to work with. Ticktockrobot are the design production company for the campaign and will be creating more ads in the new year with a bigger and better web presence to follow.

Visit this page for more info, and view the microsite here.

CN sports: homepage

We have been working with TickTockRobot recently on a new microsite for Cartoon Network’s Nordic websites, holding a collection of online sports games, rolled out over several weeks, 2 games per week.

The site uses a combination of flash and javascript animation, relying solely on javascript if flash is not installed (…although you’ll need flash in order to play the games).

A bit of PHP automatically unlocks the new games every Monday, changing all the links and images on the homepage, but all previous weeks are accessible via the archive page.

The site has been produced in 3 languages. Here’s the Swedish one.

Kelly Sweeney - home page

New site just launched for Kelly Sweeney – a Brighton based printmaker with a lovely scratchy style.

The site makes use of a lot of absolute positioning in CSS and a healthy amount of javascript – in particular the jQuery Cycle andGalleriffic plugins, to achieve nice smooth fades on the homepage slideshow and the gallery pages.

Kelly provided the full design and we made it happen. The rough picture frames are transparent PNGs placed on top of the images, masking the edges.

Not your average boxy website, and it certainly maskes Kelly’s style. We’re particularly fond of the Brighton Bugs in Traffic green!

Here’s a little animation test I did in Flash that was never used. I liked it too much to just file it away. I’ve removed the company branding to protect the innocent.
